Woods to return to Quail Hollow

Tiger Woods will try to bounce back from a disappointing Masters at the US PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow May 3-6, organizers said Wednesday.

Woods won the tournament in 2007, but didn't play there last year as he recovered from leg injuries.

The last time Woods played at Quail Hollow was in 2010, when he posted the highest 36-hole total of his career, 153, and missed the cut.

"It is always great to have our champions come back and we are glad Tiger will join this group and return to Charlotte," said Wells Fargo Championship Executive Director Kym Hougham.

"One of our goals each year is to attract the game's top players, who are eligible to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship. With the addition of Tiger to the field this is once again shaping up to be one of the strongest fields of the year."

Woods is enduring an up-and-down 2012 season. He withdrew in the final round at Doral with a sore Achilles tendon, then won at Bay Hill to claim his first PGA Tour title in more than two years.

That victory sent him into the Masters on a high, but he finished tied for 40th at Augusta National.

Masters champion Bubba Watson is also slated to play Quail Hollow, along with fellow top 10 players Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Hunter Mahan.
