Fulford moved from its original site at Naburn Lane to Tilmire in 1935. The course was planned and constructed by Major Charles McKenzie, the partner and brother of the now legendary Dr Alister MacKenzie, the man who designed the world famous Augusta National with legendary amateur golf Bobby Jones. MacKenzie also laid out Pebble Beach, a course that has routinely been labelled America's No.1 course. Prolific Scottish Architect and former open champion James Braid first inspected Fulford in 1930. The area consisted largely of heath, scrub, bog, sand and rabbit warrens with, at the Northern end, a narrow strip of arable land coinciding with what are now the fairway of the first four holes. It remains a wonderful course deserving great respect and attention.
