Former world number one Tiger Woods will move his US PGA Tour event to the TPC Potomac course for 2017, 11 years after the layout last hosted elite talent.
The course, the long-time home of the PGA Kemper Open when it was known as Avenel, is down the road from Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, where Woods' event, the National, has been played most years since it began in 2007.
The TPC Potomac course and clubhouse underwent a major renovation in 2008, having been a layout that struggled to attract top players.
Congressional agreed to host this year's National and the 2016 event.
The 2015 edition will be played at another suburban Washington course, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. The layout was a four-time host of the Presidents Cup matches between US and International (non-European) teams.
TPC Potomac has hosted events on the developmental and over-50 circuits since the PGA moved away.
