England's Florentyna Parker claimed a share of the lead after a difficult first day of the Hero Women's Indian Open in Gurgaon on Friday.

Parker carded a two-under-par 70 on the challenging Gary Player Course at DLF Golf and Country Club to join France's Anne-Lise Caudal, Finland's Ursula Wikstrom and Austria's Christine Wolf at the top of the leaderboard.

"I'm really thrilled," said the 27-year-old, who is currently sixth on the Ladies European Tour Order of Merit. "I started really well and was three under after four, then I lost a ball (on the 14th), which can easily happen.

"I made a lot of birdies, which was the difference from my last year here. I putted really well and, apart from one hole, I kept the ball in play."

Only eight players in the 113-strong field broke par, with England's Kiran Matharu on one under par alongside defending champion Emily Kristine Pedersen of Denmark and Spainish duo Nuria Iturrios and Patricia Sanz Barrio.
