Think of Pontypridd and the first thing that comes to your mind is rugby. The game flourishes in this area and has done so for many years but that doesn't mean golf takes a back seat. The game, in fact, is very popular with the locals thanks largely to the town's golf course, Pontypridd Golf Club. Rumours still exist to this day that the reason so many of South Wales' golf course are mountain-type courses is that any flat land at the time was bought up by groups who had only one thing in mind - the creation of rugby fields. Ryder Cup hero Philip Price grew up playing Pontypridd and even took on the role of the club's touring professional for a while.
