The Curragh Golf Club is certainly worth including on your itinerary if you are visiting Dublin or its surrounding area. The club was founded in 1883, though there is evidence that golf was played on the site as early as 1857. It was brought to the area by David Ritchie, a Scot, and he was handed the job of designing the course. A heathland layout which sits opposite the world-famous Curragh racecourse, it measures just over 6600 yards and has a par of 72, one more than the standard scratch. The club has extensive practice facilities while the clubhouse more than matches the standard of the course. Visitors are requested to pre-book and a visit to Ireland's oldest course is well worth the effort.
