Athy Golf Club was formed in 1906 as nine-holer but was extended to a full 18-hole course in 1993. It extends to 6500 yards from the medal tees and has a par of 71. The parkland course is the product of the labours of its own members who, in keeping with nature's presentation of mature trees, undulating meadowland and a clear running stream, produced an excellent course in which each hole has it's individuality. The last five holes are very demanding and the 16th and 17th holes are considered by many to be among the most difficult consecutive par 4s you will find anywhere. A new clubhouse was opened in June 2003 and offers first-class facilities.
