Many illustrious names have appeared on the membership list at East Brighton, including David Lloyd George, who joined in 1911 and as Prime Minister held War Cabinet Meetings in the Oak Lounge in the period 1916-1918. Others of blue blood include The Marquee of Abergavenny, The Earl of Chichester and His Grace The Duke of Norfolk and the Duke and Duchess of Fife. In the 1930s the club was a popular venue for Professional tournaments. In 1933 Walter Hagen and Densmore Shute, famous US golfers, beat Alf Padgham and Charlie Parsons 6&5 in an exhibition match. The East Brighton course remains just as popular today and is a challenging test laid out amid beautiful scenery. A wonderful club in every respect.

How to Get there

From the North

Assuming travel from the A23. When coming towards Brighton on the A23, look for signs to A27 Lewes and leave the A23 for this junction. When on the A27 head towards Lewes (East) until the Rottingdean / Falmer junction.

After leaving on the slip road, at the roundabout turn right heading towards Rottingdean. Keep on this road for about 2 miles (across the downs). When you begin coming downhill into Woodingdean prepare to turn right at the traffic lights (crossroads). Continue along this road heading towards Brighton for about a mile at which point you will see some further traffic light with a left lane that goes across the racecourse.

Getting into this left lane and turn left over the racecourse. You will then follow the road down the hill towards the sea. At the next lights turn left and then look out as about 100 yards up on the left is the slip road entrance into the golf club.

From the East

If on the A27 use the directions as per the north, making sure to exit the A27 at the Falmer / Rottingdean junction.

From the South

Swim, when landing at the beach, dry yourself and call a taxi to the golf club.

From the West

If travelling along the A27 follow the directions above. Otherwise from the town centre, head East on the A259 Coast Road, and turn left (back on yourself) just after the pitch and putt course (past the marina). Take this road and continue over the brow of the hill, until when you begin to descend towards the traffic lights look out for the slip road of the golf club on the right hand side. Take this turning slowly.
