Biography
Padraig Harrington turned professional in 1995 and claimed his maiden European Tour victory at the Peugeot Spanish Open the following year.
In 2006 he won the European Tour Order of Merit, the start of a quite remarkable two-year period in his career.
At Carnoustie in 2007, Harrington beat Sergio Garcia in a play-off to win The Open and defended his title 12 months' later at Royal Birkdale.
A third major followed immediately, as Harrington triumphed in the US PGA Championship at Oakland Hills - once again defeating Garcia, along with Ben Curtis, in a three-man play-off.
Respected as one of the game's great putters, Harrington has represented Europe in the last five Ryder Cup matches against the United States.
