Biography
Martin Kaymer became the first German to be named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year after a superb debut season in 2007 during which he recorded five top ten finishes. Further underlined his talent on his first appearance of the 2008 season with an impressive wire-to-wire maiden victory in the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.
A second win, this time in his homeland at the BMW International Open, confirmed his place in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking.
Made a stunning impact on the 2006 Challenge Tour, playing only eight events on the 2006 Schedule but finishing fourth on the final Rankings having won twice – on his Challenge Tour season debut at the Vodafone Challenge and then at the Open des Volcans – Challenge de France – and registering a further four top five finishes to secure a place on Europe’s top table.
Scored a 59 on the Satellite EPD Tour before joining the Challenge Tour in August 2006.
Kaymer won his first major in 2010, beating Bubba Watson in a play-off at Whistling Straits to triumph at the US PGA Championship.
Coached by Günther Kessler in his native Dusseldorf. Cites Ernie Els as his golfing hero.
