Biography
Produced the performance of his life to capture the 2001 PGA Championship, edging out Angel Cabrera and Nick Faldo, before remarking: ‘I think my victory is a testament to the strength and depth of The European Tour.’ Born in Bolton, Lancashire, but raised in Edinburgh. Won the English Amateur Championship in 1982 but, after many years living in Scotland, was eventually given status as a Scot. Won all four games in 1983 Walker Cup and won Qualifying School later that year. Fought a two year battle with energy sapping illness, ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) but returned to win twice in the nineties. Joint ninth in The KLM Open represented his best return of the 2005 campaign.
