Venezuela's Jhonattan Vegas birdied the final three holes for a closing 64 to clinch the RBC Canadian Open title in Ontario.

The 31-year-old world number 203 carded nine birdies to finish eight under for the day and 12 under for the tournament, winning by one shot from Scotland's Martin Laird, Spaniard Jon Rahm and world number one Dustin Johnson.

Laird, tied sixth overnight when three shots behind, closed with a 67, as did Rahm, while US Open champion Johnson shot 69.

Overnight leader Brandt Snedeker, Steve Wheatcroft, in contention before bogeying the last two holes, fellow American Ricky Barnes and Germany's Alex Cejka were all tied for fifth a shot further back.

Australia's Geoff Ogilvy carded a 63 to finish on nine under alongside Canada's Jared du Toit and Matt Kuchar, while world number two Jason Day, who never recovered from a second-round 76, closed with a 67 to be tied for 14th, five strokes behind Vegas.

Vegas, who missed a 43-foot eagle putt on the par-five 18th by just a foot, made just one bogey, at the eighth hole.
