Taiwanese champ hit by brain tumour

12 Sep 2012 - 12:17:15

Leading Asian golfers voiced support for Taiwan's Lu Wei-chih Wednesday after he underwent surgery for a brain tumour.

Lu, 33, won last year's Yeangder Tournament Players Championship but is sitting out the tournament this week as he recovers from last month's operation to remove the 4.4cm (two inch) growth.

"Such is life and there are certain things in life which you cannot control. I just feel very bad to let my wife worry so much about me," said Lu, according to an Asian Tour press release.

India's Gaganjeet Bhullar was among the players to send Lu his best wishes.

"Lu's a great friend of mine and it's sad that he has to go through something like this. I hope to have him back on Tour again very soon and compete against him as he's a very good player," he was quoted as saying.

The $500,000 event starts at Taipei's Linkou International Golf and Country club on Thursday.
