Course review - Manor House, Bath

08 Sep 2010 - 11:57:55

Manor House is set in 365 acres of Wiltshire countryside, and provides a idyllic golfing retreat within shooting distance of Bath.

Designed by legendary golf commentator Peter Alliss and his business partner Clive Clarke, the course was opened for play in 1992 and has quickly built a fine reputation.

There is plenty of variety on offer in the layout, with a couple of seriously long par fives happily mixed in with some delightfully short par fours.

The greens were in fine shape on our visit, as were the immaculate fairways.

To say the course is undulating would be an understatement; buggies are advised for all those below fighting fit, and electric trollies best advised for those inclined to walk.

The course finishes with a superb par four, with a difficult second to a green protected by water and sand to the right, and trees to the left.

In summary - Peter Alliss design is a delightful golfing retreat, but you better bring your hiking boots
