Course of the week - Manchester Golf Club
19 Oct 2009 - 06:59:03
Golf.co.uk heads north this week, to take in a highly-rated and newly-refined inland layout at Manchester Golf Club.
In a county that has some of the best links courses in the world, Manchester
Golf Club is without doubt one of Lancashire's best inland courses.
GOLF.CO.UK COURSE GUIDE
Designed by Harry Shapland Colt, the course - which is predominantly moorland in character but with heathland and parkland features - is set in a huge 247 acres.
Recent changes have improved the course, rewarding strategy and accuracy as opposed to sheer brute force and there are a variety of tees to suit golfers of different
abilities.
The course consistently features in the 'Best of …' golf guides, has played host to various prestigious events, including the Lancashire Amateur Championship which returns to Manchester in 2011, PGA European Tour Qualifiers and The Player's Tour.
It is quite rightly considered to be one of the finest inland courses in the North West of England.
Green fees: £50 during the week and £60 at weekends
How to get there: Three miles from Junction 20 off the M62
Address: Manchester Golf Club, Hopwood Cottage, Rochdale Road, Middleton, Manchester M24 6QP
