Allegations surface of Tiger Woods drug addiction

09 Dec 2009 - 08:03:45

The Tiger Woods circus took another turn yesterday, with reports suggesting the world number one could be addicted to painkilling medication.

According to some sources, Woods's wife Elin Nordegren handed police two empty bottles when he was taken to hospital last week, after crashing his car into a fire hydrant outside his Florida home.

One of those had contained the powerful painkiller Vicodin, the other sleeping pills called Ambien.

Woods was then listed as a suspected "overdose" on his admission to hospital.

The 14-times major winner suffered a serious knee injury in 2008 and could well have turned to Vicodin for pain relief on his return to action.

The speculation comes in the wake of yet more drama at the Woods family home on Tuesday, which saw his mother-in-law rushed to hospital after collapsing. She has since been released.
