About
The US PGA Championship is the fourth and final major championship of the season, often referred to as ‘Glory’s last shot’, and rotates around links and inland courses in the US.
Typically held in August, the championship is run by the US Professional Golfers’ Association (US PGA) and reserves 26 of the 156 places in the field for home club professionals.
The winner is awarded the Wanamaker Trophy, donated by Rodman Wanamaker, who conceived the idea of hosting an annual professional tournament in 1916 at a the meeting which heralded the formation of the US PGA.
The US PGA Championship began as a match play event, before switching to strokeplay format in 1958.
In 2009, South Korea’s Yang Yong-eun became the first Asian player to win a major championship, when he triumphed at Hazeltine National in Minnesota to become the 91st US PGA championship winner.
