LPGA to tee off 2015 season in Florida

29 July 2014 06:31

The LPGA Tour will launch a new season-opening event in Florida next January, only the second time since 2001 the campaign will start so early.

LPGA officials announced Tuesday the creation of the Coates Championship to be staged January 28-31 at Ocala, Florida, an Orlando suburb.

The tournament will finish on Saturday because the following day is American football's Super Bowl Sunday, which dominates the weekend US sport scene.

The Bahamas LPGA Classic, which marked the start of the 2014 season this past January, will be moved to the week after the new Florida tournament.
