Australia's Andrew Dodt sat at the top of the leaderboard in the early stages of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on Thursday after shooting a fine opening round of 66.

The two-time European Tour winner was six under par, two shots clear of second-placed Rashid Khan of India, who had also completed his round.

Dodt made a birdie-birdie start from the 10th - as did Khan - and after a bogey on the 14th and birdie on the 15th, he eagled the par-five last to turn in 32.

The 30-year-old ended his round having posted six birdies and two bogeys in total.

Of the five players with a share of third place, two shots behind Khan, Thailand's Natipong Srithong and South Africa's Jbe Kruger had finished their rounds.

Kruger's compatriots Jaco van Zyl and defending champion George Coetzee were among those a further shot back, both having gone round in 71.
