When talk arises of the best inland golf courses in the British Isles you can guarantee that Walton Heath will enter the discussion at some point. This beautiful heathland set-up, founded in 1903, is up there with the very best of them. Both courses - Old Course and New Course - were designed by Herbert Fowler, a leading amateur and designer at home and overseas. Walton Heath was Fowler's first venture. Many believe that, along with Gleneagles, Walton Heath is one of the finest examples of heathland golf in the world. The Old Course opened in sensational style in 1904 with an exhibition match between the legendary triumvirate of Harry Vardon, JH Taylor and James Braid.
