Royal Forest of Dean was one of the courses born out of the golf boom that exploded upon England in the mid 1970s, opening its doors to golfers for the first time in 1973, based upon comprehensive designs by John Day of the company Alphagreen Ltd. Mr. Day and his employers can certainly take great pride from his work as it is an excellent example of a course, laid out part-meadow parkland with plenty of challenges scattered across each hole ready to gobble up the odd stray ones. At 5813 yards from the tee on the first hole all the way round to the pin on the eighteenth, it is hardly the longest course in Gloucestershire, but is certainly one of the most challenging
