Former world number one Martin Kaymer stormed into contention for his first European Tour title in two years on day three of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Kaymer began the third round six shots off the lead shared by Masters champion Danny Willett, Korea's YE Yang and Australia's Scott Hend, but reduced his deficit to just two shots in the space of five holes.
The 31-year-old German birdied the third, holed from five feet for an eagle on the par-five fourth and also birdied the fifth from close range to move to eight under par, just as the final pair of Willett and Hend got under way.
Kaymer came into the event on the back of a closing 65 in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open at the K Club last week, although his last win was the 2014 US Open, when he led from start to finish at Pinehurst to claim a second major title.
Willett won his first major at Augusta National in April, while Yang created history in the 2009 US PGA Championship as the first man to come from behind to beat Tiger Woods in the final round of a major.
