Nineteen players were separated by just four shots as the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship headed for an exciting finish at St Andrews on Sunday.

Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen took a three-shot lead into the final round, but followed a birdie on the first with a double bogey on the second and another dropped shot on the third.

Olesen steadied the ship with a birdie on the fourth and reclaimed the lead with a two-putt birdie on the par-five fifth, but that only took the 25-year-old back to where he started on 17 under par.

American Brooks Koepka had gone to the turn in 34 and then rolled in a hat-trick of birdies from the 10th to move to 16 under, with eight players another shot behind, including major champions Stewart Cink, Graeme McDowell and Ernie Els.

Cink had raced to the turn in 31 and also birdied the 10th and 11th, only to make a complete hash of the par-five 14th and take four to get down from short of the green to drop his first shot of the day.
