The Dustbin Lid Man - Come in golfing bandits my landing gear is down
28 Jan 2010 - 07:04:15
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Yes actually it is. On the 11th fairway...
It isn't what you'd expect when ambling round the golf course, but there was great excitement with an emergency landing at the Hermann Park Golf course in Texas this week.
Pilot Brandon Ford's Cessna started spluttering and he had around two minutes to find somewhere to land his plane, and seeing as all the surrounding roads were busy with rush hour traffic he chose a wide fairway.
Now if he did that at my local while I was crouched over a clutch putt, there would be hell the pay.
Lee Westwood, he of unbeatable Race to Dubai golfing legend, had a little blip last week. It seems to have been caused by his new clubs which have been forced upon him because of the new groove regulations.
He is much the same as me in one respect, we both struggle with new clubs. Me not quite as badly, but I can still sympathise. He's had some even newer ones flown out to him in time for this week's tournament in Qatar. He could have hired Brandon Ford to drop them off on his way home.
Disney's new cruise liner is going to feature a miniature golf course - on a boat! It's going to be called Goofy's Golf and will be ideal for parents looking to ignore their children for an hour or two.
One man who sounds like he could do with a cruise is retired lecturer and golf ball finding expert Denis Rice. Told by his doctor to get out more, Denis decided to start hunting the underbrush for lost golf balls to keep hale and hearty.
He has now collected over seventy thousand balls, which is a shed load of really crap golf shots. If you see him at Montrose Golf links, give him a wave and lose a ball or two for him, after all its keeping the seventy-six year old busy.
Denis has even found some balls with 'Hello Denis' written on them. So when you lose your ball accidentally on purpose, make sure they have a nice message for the golf ball finder extraordinaire...and nothing rude please.
