The Dustbin Lid Man - Fabio Capello and the celebrity golf mystery
Fabio Capello is a mad keen golfer, if we are to believe everything we read in the tabloids. He even has a putting green in his FA headquarters.
I like him playing golf, but I also like England winning the World Cup, so maybe he should put the sticks down until after the summer.
Speaking of national heroes, I saw Dexter Fletcher this afternoon. He of Press Gang fame. He's short.
It had absolutely nothing to do with golf and as regular readers will know, that is most unlike me. But bear with me avid fans.
It got me thinking that I've never seen a celebrity on a golf course. Why not? It seems to me they all play the game relentlessly, certainly if I believe everything I read.
Maybe I never see the superstars because they only play the upmarket establishments that don't let riff raff like you and I onto their hallowed turf. Places so exclusive their greens aren't rolled at all, the grass is gently persuaded to lie down by the soft padding of babies' bottoms.
A lot of famous footballers must be golfers though, so I guess what well-to-do course would let them have their wicked way with someone's wife on the back nine?
No, they should by rights be on the commonest course available. So where are they? Let's play a game of 'spot the celeb on the course' - first one to see a famous face wins.
Amazingly since this week is all about celebrity, as I write this on the train, Will Self has just walked past me. He's tall. Not sure about the golf side of things.
I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that the Kings of Leon have recently discovered a love for our glorious sport. But I'd like to ask the burning question, who makes the best celebrity golfers? Footballers or Rock stars?
Now I like footballers and I like Rock stars. But which are better? There's only one way to find out...fight!
