Breaking America with Rachel Connor - Mixing with the stars

25 Nov 2009 - 12:59:11

Golf.co.uk's rising amateur star Rachel Connor spent the last week rubbing shoulders with Maria Sharapova and the United States football team in Florida.

Hi Golf.co.uk readers,

It's been another golf packed week at the David Leadbetter IMG Academy. The Post Graduate coaches Gary and Larry have been helping me keep my swing in shape and we've been making a few adjustments to my putting stroke.

This is the time to do it as my off season officially starts when I go back to the UK for my Christmas break. It was quite an exciting time at the Academy this week, with the USA Soccer Team (Football to us!) in training here and a daily visit from three-time Grand Slam title winner Maria Sharapova to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.

I watched her play a few games against one of the coaches - she is a class act - all 6ft 2 inches of her and at least 40 inches of that leg! It is fantastic to be surrounded by such quality athletes - it really gives me a buzz!

I've got a lot to do when I get back to the UK - sponsors to see - management companies to visit and of course I need to maintain my fitness.

Whilst I'm back in the UK I work with Kim and David Roberts from DR Physiotherapy. David has been a long time England Cricket Physio he has worked with Sir Ian Botham and Freddy Flintoff. He also works with a number of top European Tour players such as Richard Finch.

Kim has been working on a programme with me back in the UK to keep me in shape and develop my core muscles - she is a star! Kim and I can often be found running around the hills of Lancashire with our dogs Toby and Arnie.

You can email me at rachel@golf.co.uk if you have any golf fitness related questions and I will ask Kim to reply.

Keep in shape during the winter and when the new season begins you will be off to a head start.

Just one more week before my return to Manchester now - time to get out the woolly jumpers and thermals I'm afraid - chillblains here I come!

Things are gradually slowing down at the David Leadbetter IMG Academy as people out here prepare for 'Thankgiving Day'.

Until next time,

Rachel
