The ultra-exclusive Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA, has been home to The Masters since its first edition in 1934, and is among the most revered golf courses on the planet.
The club itself was founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, and the course designed by Scotland’s Alister MacKenzie. A long, demanding layout, Augusta is famed for its jaw-dropping aesthetics and lightning-fast, undulating greens.
Come Masters week, the course is unfailingly lined by plants, tree and shrubbery in brilliant, full bloom, including, most famously, its plentiful azaleas. Even the water in the hazards is dyed blue, to give the course full effect to a watching TV audience of millions.
The stretch from the 11th fairway to the 13th tee is famously known as ‘Amen Corner’, a phrase first coined by the author Warren Herbert Wind in a 1958 article for Sports Illustrated.
