Massereene was originally founded as a nine-hole course in 1885, and underwent many changes before Fred Hawtree laid out the existing course in 1961. Close to Belfast International Airport, the course runs along the shores of Lough Neagh, the biggest inland stretch of water in the British Isles. The opening holes on this mainly parkland course wind away from the clubhouse until the par five seventh, which tumbles downhill to the shoreline of the lake in the direction of Shane's Castle. After a tricky ninth hole you will cross the road to face a testing, yet enjoyable inward half.
